Cellulose Insulation

While Energsmart's foam insulation products provide the greatest efficiency in the industry, we also offer a mid-grade product called cellulose. While not as efficient as foam, the product is more efficient and much more healthy than fiberglass. Cellulose is made up almost entirely of recycled newspapers, making it the "greenest" insulation product available. The product can be loose blown into attics or dense packed into side walls or floored attics.
While cellulose isn't as efficient as foam, it's the best alternative for a homeowner if the initial cost of foam insulation is beyond their budget. The physical consistency of the product is similar to clumpy sawdust. This consistency gives it "fluid like" characteristics allowing it to be blown into odd shaped areas very effectively. Pre-formed insulation products like fiberglass batts can't be installed well in these areas without time consuming attention to detail by cutting the batts to fit perfectly in the cavities.
Energsmart can also install this product in conjunction with our spray foam products, especially in new construction. Installing foam around the perimeter at the attic soffit area cuts down on wind wash. Installing foam at wall tops and around can lights, bathroom fans, and other penetrations, eliminates the “stack effect” that sucks energy out of houses. This alternative is less efficient than foam, but if you have budget constraints it's the next best thing.
